Cold Struck!

Temperature outside on a decline,
The cold is seeping through your spine.
But it’s your heart the cold has made numb,
Ignoring your deen, to this world you succumb.
Clinging to that which seems most attractive,
Fun and frolic, so what if it’s destructive?

I am not cold struck inside out,
Won’t let my conscience shout.
Have I wronged myself? Don’t care,
Will enjoy life for now, without despair.

Generous you are in spending on trends,
Thousands of dollars on a number of brands.
Would rather not give in the path of your Creator,
Clinging to whims, shying away from what’s greater.
While decorating your homes delightfully,
You forget your true home, the grave, tragically.

I am not cold struck inside out,
Won’t let my conscience shout.
Have I wronged myself? Don’t care,
Will enjoy life for now, without despair.

Qur’an and Sunnah, you have heard of enough,
Salaah and fasting for you are quite tough.
A show of the good you do, you’ll never miss,
Facebook/Twitter updates, your life’s true bliss.
Letting the world know what posts you share,
‘Praises’ and ‘likes’ at your disposal are there.

I am not cold struck inside out,
Won’t let my conscience shout.
Have I wronged myself? Don’t care,
Will enjoy life for now, without despair.

Bloodshed of the countless each day, so what?
Is your ummah suffering for nought?
Cries and deaths do not shake you a bit,
In your cozy homes at your leisure you sit.
Thousands of innocent heads being slaughtered,
But you, why should you even be bothered?

I am not cold struck inside out,
Won’t let my conscience shout.
Have I wronged myself? Don’t care,
Will enjoy life for now, without despair.

Live in your bubble of comfort and gossip,
News to you is merely a discussion topic.
Bombings, suicide attacks, rapes or abduction,
Just show outward care, and gain appreciation.
You in reality are concerned for none,
Some empty words, sympathy and fake concern.

I am not cold struck inside out,
Won’t let my conscience shout.
Have I wronged myself? Don’t care,
Will enjoy life for now, without despair.

So dread The Day, you too will be suffering,
When the All-Knower will bring you to your reckoning.
You will cry in dread and squall with fear,
No one to your rescue today, no one will hear.

The fair weathered friends, to whom you adhere,
In time of true need, will not be there.
Do you know then what you will say,
In this time of true peril and utter dismay?

Ashamed, you will recall your attitude,
Hating yourself, responsible and destitute.
With all your power and might then you will shout,
Cold struck was I, no doubt.
